Lesson #16: The Strangest Beauty Item Can Be The Best

Julep All-Natural Facial Konjac Sponge: A Review

I was recently sent this sponge through an Allure beauty box and I was instantly intrigued. I had never seen something like this and the idea of it arriving wet in a package and supposedly being a sponge was strange for me. Although strange, I am so glad that I tried this product for my sensitive skin. My skin has never been as soft, glowing, and healthy as it is after using this sponge.konjac sponge._ori (2)

The Product Basics (obtained from www.julep.com)

Name: Charcoal Konjac Sponge

Price: $12.00

Description: This super gentle all-natural exfoliator is enriched with skin-clarifying charcoal to cleanse, exfoliate, and detoxify your skin. Use in the morning to show off smoother, softer skin, and in the evening to prep your skin for moisturizers.

Directions: Rinse under warm water before each use. Massage your face in a circular motion to exfoliate dead skin cells. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze out excess water after each use. Replace every 1-2 months.

Initial Reactions

When I first opened the package I was surprised by two things–the sponge was wet and that it was actually very soft. Whenever I think of an exfoliator, I imagine hard pumice stone like products that would make my face raw. If that would have been the case, it would be a deal breaker for my sensitive skin but I was pleasantly surprised.

Review

Following the directions, I began to massage the sponge in circular motions on my face. At first, I thought, “This isn’t doing anything!” As soon as I washed my face and felt my skin I was amazed! Dead skin, that I even didn’t know was there, rolled off revealing smooth skin. My face felt clean and refreshed and not stripped of all moisture. I always do the 2-hour test to see if my skin will have a reaction to the product and it did not! I have sensitive and eczema prone skin so I am unsure how this would work for oily skin. If you are looking for something to help oily skin, I would check out my review on bentonite clay.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes–I would recommend this product. When spring comes around, to put our best face forward, we have to exfoliate the dead, dry winter skin. I believe this product does just that. Not only is this product gentle enough for everyday use, it is 100% biodegradable and compostable.
