Lesson #18: Oatmeal is a Powerful Beauty Tool

S.W Basics Exfoliant: A Review

I recently collaborated with S.W Basics, a beauty company that boasts that all of their products contain 5 ingredients or less. As a big promoter of natural beauty, I was instantly intrigued. Come with me as I explain while oatmeal is a powerful beauty tool.

S.W Basics of Brooklyn Lgo

The Product Basics (obtained from swbasicsofbk.com)

Name: Exfoliant

Price: $24.00

Description: S.W Basics Exfoliant is pure kitchen-cabinet awesomeness. We take organic oat and almond flours that are not too rough but not too soft, and mineral-rich sea salt, and voilà: a simple, nourishing, super-effective exfoliant that leaves your skin soft and glowing. And, guess what…it’s now USDA-Certified Organic!

Directions: Mix about a teaspoon of Exfoliant with water. Gently scrub onto face, using small circular motions. Leave on for 1-5 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Initial Reactions

Opening the product you see all the ingredients right in front of you–oatmeal, almond flour, and sea salt. Although oatmeal and sea salt are traditionally more rough exfoliant ingredients, S.W Basics creates a smooth fine exfoliant. As I put this product on my face I was surrounded by the smell of oatmeal. But don’t worry, the smell goes away after a few seconds. I personally do not mind the instant oatmeal smell because it boasts the products natural qualities.

Review

Following the directions, the exfoliant soon develops into a creamy exfoliant. A little goes a long way with this product as I was able to use a teaspoon of product and use it on my face, neck, chest and upper back. This product contains sea salt so pay special attention not to get it in your eyes! As I began to let the product sit on my face I began to feel a slight stinging sensation from the sea salt. I was initially worried about this but I kept the exfoliant on. I am thankful I did because the next day, emerging blemishes had vanished! Ultimately this exfoliant made my skin smooth, soft, and blemish-free.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes–I would recommend this product. While sometimes we need a heavy exfoliant for a deep clean, this exfoliant by S.W Basics is light enough to use 2 or 3 times a week. Because of the sea salt, this product can work for all skin types.
